Taiwan continues to be excluded from the UN despite being a vibrant democracy, a large population of 23 million and considerable contributions to the world. As a result, Taiwan is unable to fully participate in and contribute its vast resources to global institutions such as the World Health Organization and forced to enter international competitions under the name "Chinese Taipei" even though the vast majority of Taiwan’s citizens consider themselves Taiwanese.

In stark contrast to United Nations members such as North Korea and Iran, Taiwan is a responsible member of the global community with a strong record on human rights, humanitarian aid and health care. Taiwan is also home to one of the world’s largest economies with a GDP per capita eclipsing Japan’s and nearly matching that of Germany.

For these reasons, I believe the exclusion of Taiwan from the United Nations is wrong and unjust to both the 23 million people of Taiwan as well as to countries that stand to benefit from Taiwan’s membership.

I therefore sign this petition in support of the 23 million people of Taiwan in their effort to achieve full recognition and equal treatment for Taiwan in the international community though United Nations membership.
